Questo è un vecchio ferro da stiro usato nei primi anni del XX secolo, il suo funzionamento è molto semplice e rudimentale: la piastra di ferro veniva scaldata e poi veniva passato sopra i vestiti da stirare; con il suo elevato peso (quello sopra raffigurato pesa 3 kg) permette di stirare bene i vestiti appiattendo le pieghe. Esso è il naturale precursore degli odierni ferri da stiro, oppure veniva usato da chi non aveva abbastanza soldi per potersi permettere i primi ferri da stiro moderni.
La sostanziale differenza fra questo antico ferro da stiro e quelli odierni è che quest’ultimi vengono scaldati con una caldaia alimentata dall’elettricità e che la piastra è fatta in alluminio, invece che in ferro, e spesso è sottoposta ad un trattamento per garantire l’anti aderenza per facilitare il compito all’operatore.
This is an old iron used in the early twentieth century, its operation is very simple and rudimentary: the iron plate was heated and then passed over the clothes to be ironed; with its high weight (the one shown above weighs 3 kg) it allows you to iron clothes well by flattening the folds. It is the natural precursor of today’s irons, or was used by those who did not have enough money to be able to afford the first modern ironing irons.
The substantial difference between this ancient iron and today’s ones is that the latter are heated with a boiler powered by electricity and that the plate is made of aluminum, instead of iron, and is often subjected to a treatment to ensure the ‘anti-adhesion to make the task easier for the operator.
