Nella cartolina si vedono i ragazzi classe 1909 impegnati nel servizio di leva in cavalleria presso una caserma di Pordenone. Per i ragazzi il servizio militare costituiva un importante evento nella vita di un uomo. Spesso era la prima volta che i ragazzi si allontanavano dalla famiglia e avevano un’occasione per viaggiare e vedere posti nuovi. Si nota come spesso le foto venissero stampate su fogli con il retro già predisposto come cartolina, per inviare proprie notizie ai familiari e condividere questa nuova esperienza. Si notano inoltre vari errori di ortografia e di grammatica, testimonianza di come all’epoca la maggior parte dei ragazzi avesse solo la licenza elementare, e a volte nemmeno quella.

In the postcard you can see the boys born in 1909 during the military service in the cavalry at Pordenone. The military service was for the boys an important moment in the life. It was often the first time the boys left the family and it was an opportunity to travel and see new places. You can notice how often this photos were printed with the back already set to be a postcard, to send news to the family and share this new experience. There are also various spelling and grammar errors, testimony to how at the time most of the boyshad only got to elementary school, and sometimes not even that.
